Do you get red buds, too?
Nana helps Danish women with intimate shaving
Model
The woman behind ShaveSafe is a 34-year-old Danish underwear model. As a model, Nana Nielsen often suffered from beard plague and red buds in her crotch - which is quite impractical in that industry. Here she talks about being an entrepreneur:
- It all started when I went to RUC in 2010 and took a course in entrepreneurship. During the course, we had to choose an idea for something we would like to have on the market and make a complete business plan. In my spare time, I was and am an underwear model and at the time had a lot of shaving buds in the bikini line, which annoyed me boundlessly when I was going to go shows. It was quite difficult when I had to cover them, as at the same time there must be no makeup on the collection samples, Nielsen tells Ekstra Bladet.
She thought that there had to be a solution to the problem and began to investigate the reason why you get buds and ingrown hairs at all:
- I found that this is because we have a mild staphylococcal bacteria in the skin that goes in and bothers when, for example, you scrape and make small scratches in the skin. I then read out which ingredients can remove this bacteria.
- I used this idea for the course and had a long business plan made. I got 13 and really much praise and thought, therefore, that it would be foolish to throw it all on the floor now that I had come this far. That's why I decided to keep going.
Nana Nielsen contacted a pharmaceutical company and explained to them that she would have liked to have made a foam with some specific ingredients in it, and they helped her develop a recipe for this.
- After that, I got a lot of RUC students to help me test the product, and in March 2011, while writing thesis about getting a product on the market, my shaving foam ShaveSafe came on the market, says Nana, who as a consequence was nominated for Female Entrepreneur of the Year that year.
